De-Risking the Global Transition to Zero Carbon Shipping

“The green transition of the global maritime industry is a systemic change that requires a re-calibration of an entire ecosystem. All actors across the value chain from energy producers over technology developers to ship owners and operators and regulators face a new reality and need to make critical decisions and decide on significant investments and changes while dealing with great uncertainty around the future solutions. But the climate does not have time to wait. The negative consequences of delays could far outweigh the benefits of clarity and certainty. To accelerate the transition through good decision making, we need industry players, countries and regulators to believe in this transition and commit to 2030 and even 2025 targets to make a decarbonized maritime industry possible by 2050. The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping is dedicated to accelerating the transition by de-risking decision making through research, collaboration and knowledge sharing.”

Bio

Bo Cerup-Simonsen is CEO of Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping. Prior to joining the Center, Mr. Cerup-Simonsen has held a number of prominent positions within shipping technology and innovation incl. VP, Head of Newbuilding Strategy and Portfolio at Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL); Director of the Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre at the Technical University of Denmark; and VP, Head of Maersk Maritime Technology (MMT) where he, among other things was responsible for a large number of engineering and newbuilding projects including the world’s most energy efficient containership series, the Triple-E.

Mr. Cerup Simonsen holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering) from the Technical University of Denmark and an Executive MBA from Copenhagen Business School. Bo lives with his wife Ingrid and their three children in Humlebaek, Denmark.
